Apple Upside Down Cake Recipe

1/4 cup butter or margarine
3/4 cup light brown sugar
2 cups thinly sliced, peeled apples
2 tsp. lemon juice
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg, well beaten
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1 & 1/2 cups flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
2/3 cup milk

Melt butter in 8 inch pan. Sprinkle with brown sugar. Layer apples in pan. Sprinkle with cinnamon and lemon juice.

Cream sugar, shortening and eggs. Mix well. Add dry ingredients alternately with milk. Pour over apples. Bake at 325 40 to 45. min. Cool a few minutes and turn upside down on platter. Serve with whipped cream or Cool Whip.
