6 medium apples, peeled
1/2 - 3/4 cup sugar
1 t. cinnamon
1/2 cup coconut
1/2 cup pecan pieces, broken
1/4 cup shortening
1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg, well beaten
1/2 t. vanilla
3/4 cup flour

Directions:
Directions:
Slice apples into a 9 x 9 x 3 pan. Mix sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle over apples; also sprinkle coconut and nuts. Cream shortening, butter, sugar and egg until fluffy. Stir in vanilla and flour. Spread evenly over apples. Bake at 350 about 30-35 minutes. Cut into squares, serve warm or cold, with or without Cool Whip.
