DUMPLING SAUCE:
1 c. sugar
2 c. water
3 T. butter
1/4 tsp. cinnamon

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 425º.

To Make Dumpling Sauce: Bring all ingredients to a boil in a medium size saucepan. Boil for three minutes, then reduce to a low simmer until needed.

Pare and core 6 medium sized, tart apples, then set aside. Roll out pie dough pastry and space apples evenly across each pastry sheet. Spoon 1/2 tsp. of sugar/cinnamon mixture into core cavity of each apple and top with a pat of butter. Cut the dough in squares, so that each apple sits in the center of it's own square of pastry. Bring opposite points of pastry up over the apple to overlap and seal.

Carefully lift the dumplings into a 9 x 13 baking dish. Pour hot syrup around dumplings and bake at 425º for 40 - 45 minutes. Serve warm in a bowl with warm milk (PA Dutch) or ice cream.
