Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1/2 c milk
1c sugar
1c shortening
2 eggs
1/4 tsp salt
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp soda
4 c flour
1tsp vanilla
1tsp almond extract

Directions:
Directions:
Mix sugar and shortening until well blended. Add eggs and milk. Beat thoroughly. Add vanilla and almond extracts. Add flour, baking powder, soda and salt. Mix well and refrigerate overnight. (or at least 4 hours). Use extra flour on the rolling pin and on the pastry mat to keep the dough from sticking. I roll my cookies out on a Silpat cooking mat and use cookie cutters right on the mat. Remove excess dough and bake the cookies on the pastry mat on cookie sheet until brown. Bake at 375 degrees.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
I roll mine out very thin since they don't have to be transferred after you cut them out. I frost them with powdered sugar icing and add almond and white corn syrup to the icing for a glossy finish. My mom made these every Christmas and it was one of our favorite family traditions to decorate the Christmas cookies!
