3 egg yolks
1 whole egg
1/2 cup sugar
2 level tbsp.cornstarch
1/8 tsp. salt
3 1/2 cups milk, scalded
2 tsp. vanilla
Meringue:
3 egg whites
3 tbsp. sugar
Pinch of salt

Directions:
Directions:
Cream egg yolks and whole egg with sugar which has been blended with cornstarch and salt. Add scalded milk. Cook in double boiler until thick. Add vanilla and pour into custard cups.
Beat meringue ingredients together and top custards with the mixture. Cover completely with meringue and brown on lowest rung of broiler slowly and carefully.
