1/2 cup butter
1 1/4 cup sugar
2 eggs, slightly beaten
1 2/3 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup walnuts or pecans, chopped
1 lemon, grate the peel
1 lemon, juice of

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter and 3/4 cup of sugar. Add slightly beaten eggs and lemon rind. Beat well. Add sifted dry ingredients, alternately with milk. Beat well after each addition. Stir in chopped nuts. Bake in greased 8 x 4 inch loaf pan at 350 for 50 - 60 minutes . Cool in pan 10 minutes. Poke several holes with toothpick, then spoon mixture of lemon juice and 1/2 cup of sugar over top. Cool in pan. Chill before slicing.
