1 square baking chocolate
1 1/2 cups milk
3/4 cup sugar
3 tablespoons flour
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1/4 teaspoon salt
3 separated eggs
1 tablespoon butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
6 tablespoons (For meringue) sugar
1 baked pie shell

Directions:
Directions:
Combine milk, chocolate, cornstarch, flour, sugar, and salt in saucepan. Cook over moderate heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens and boils. Boil 1 minute longer, stirring constantly. Add small amounts of this mixture to egg yolks to warm them up. Add yolks to filling mixture and cook just to boil. Add butter and vanilla. Pour into pie shell and cover with meringue. Bake at 350 until a delicate brown, about 10 minutes. Serve as soon as cool.

This recipe was discovered after trial and error during one of my visits to Vincennes. Gram, Phyllis and I made a chocolate pie every day until we found a recipe that the filling didn't run.
