Ingredients:
1 C raisins
2 C water
2 C brown sugar
4 Tbsp lard (feel free to use margarine)
2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp cloves
1/2 tsp allspice
3 C flour
2 tsp soda

Directions:
Directions:
Bring raisins and 2 C water to a boil; simmer 5 min. Remove from heat. Add sugar, spices and shortening to raisin mixture. Cool. Stir in flour and soda. Bake in greased and floured 9 x 13 pan at 350 degrees; 40 to 50 min. (Grandma's recipe did not give any baking time, so I'm guessing - you'll have to watch it and judge when it's done).

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
This cake was used by the Clark family during war time when many things were being rationed. It's quite a heavy cake, but a little whipped cream or ice cream does a lot for it.
