Sauce:

1/2 cup brown sugar
1 - 8 ounce can tomato sauce
1/4 cup catsup
1/4 cup vinegar
juice from 1 lemon
1 1/2 t. celery seed
1/2 onion, chopped, saute
1/2 t. chili powder
1 T. Worchestershire sauce
2 T. barbecue sauce (hickory smoke flavor)

Meatballs:

2 lbs. hamburger
1 cup bread crumbs
salt and pepper to taste
2 eggs
1/2 cup milk

Directions:

Heat all of the sauce ingredients together.

Make the meatballs tiny and brown well. After browning meatballs, add them gently to above sauce and fold in well. Simmer about 1/2 hour. These are best made the day before and refrigerated in the sauce. Carefully reheat just before serving.

This is a recipe our family has had most Christmases for many years. Usually, I double the recipe. I don't make the meatballs too tiny.
