1 cup butter, softened
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
1/2 tsp. ground ginger
1 egg
1 tbsp. dark rum
1 tsp. vanilla
3 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup butter
5 cups sifted powdered sugar
1/4 cup milk
2 tsp. vanilla

Beat butter. Add sugars, nutmeg, and ginger. Beat until combined. Beat in egg, rum, and vanilla. Beat in as much flour as possible stirring in the rest. Divide dough into 6 portions, wrap, and chill for about 30 minutes. On a lightly floured surface shape dough into a rope and cut into 3 inch logs. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet at 350 degrees for about 12 minutes.
Heat butter over low heat until it turns a delicate brown. Remove from heat and put in a bowl. Beat in powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla.Add enough extra milk (1-2 tbsp.) to make frosting consistancy. Ice cookies. Run a fork lengthwise along each log so frosting resembles bark. Sprinkle lightly with nutmeg. Let frosting dry.
