1 cup butter, softened
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
1/2 tsp. ground ginger
1 egg
1 tbsp. dark rum
1 tsp. vanilla
3 cups all-purpose flour
BROWNED BUTTER FROSTING
1/2 cup butter
5 cups sifted powdered sugar
1/4 cup milk
2 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Beat butter. Add sugars, nutmeg, and ginger. Beat until combined. Beat in egg, rum, and vanilla. Beat in as much flour as possible stirring in the rest. Divide dough into 6 portions, wrap, and chill for about 30 minutes. On a lightly floured surface shape dough into a rope and cut into 3 inch logs. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet at 350 degrees for about 12 minutes.
FROSTING
Heat butter over low heat until it turns a delicate brown. Remove from heat and put in a bowl. Beat in powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla.Add enough extra milk (1-2 tbsp.) to make frosting consistancy. Ice cookies. Run a fork lengthwise along each log so frosting resembles bark. Sprinkle lightly with nutmeg. Let frosting dry.
