2 square bitter chocolate, melted and cooled
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
2/3 cups applesauce
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Mix together bitter chocolate and shortening. Add sugar, eggs, applesauce and vanilla. Sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Add to applesauce mixture. Add nuts. Grease and flour bottom of 9x13 pan. Bake 35-40 minutes at 350.

Serve with whipped cream to which a little apple sauce has been added; or frost lightly.
