"I have long believed that good food, good eating is all about risk. Whether we're talking about unpasteurized Stilton, raw oysters or working for organized crime 'associates,' food, for me, has always been an adventure."--Anthony Bourdain

1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1 1/2 cups vanilla sugar
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
6 ounces candy-coated semisweet chocolate pieces; miniature chocolate covered mint creams, quartered; any chocolate-covered candy bar, coarsely chopped; or a combination to total 1 cup.
1/2 cup coconut, toasted nuts, or tiny marshmallows

In a 1-quart canning jar layer ingredients in order. After each addition, tap jar gently on counter to settle layers. Add additional candies, nuts or marshmallows to fill small gaps at top of jar, if necessary. Cover, attach baking directions. Vanilla sugar: Fill a quart jar with 4 cups sugar. Cut a vanilla bean in half lengthwise and insert both halves into sugar. Secure lid and store in a cool dry place for several weeks before using.
Baking Directions: To prepare, in large bowl combine 1/2 cup butter, melted and cooled, and 2 slightly beaten eggs. Gently stir in contents. Spread the mixture in a greased and floured 8x8 pan. Bake 350º oven for 35 min. Cool in pan and cut into bars. Makes about 16 brownies.
