Toasted bread slices
1 (15-oz) cans asparagus spears, reserve juice
Shredded Cheddar cheese
1 1/3 sticks butter, melted
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
Milk
Salt and pepper to taste

Directions:
Directions:
Arrange a layer of toasted bread in a 8 x 8 x 2-inch baking dish. Layer asparagus over toast. Sprinkle with cheese. Repeat layers. Combine butter and flour in a saucepan. Whisk until smooth. Add cheese and stir until cheese melts. Add asparagus juice and milk. Stir. Add more as sauce thickens. Season with salt and pepper. Pour over casserole. Bake at 350 degrees 10 minutes
