1 c. sugar
3/4 c. shortening or margarine
1 egg
4 tbsp. molasses
1 3/4 c. flour (measure, then sift)
1/4 tsp. cloves
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
2 tsp. baking soda

Directions:
Directions:
Cream sugar and shortening or margarine. Add rest of ingredients and mix together. Make into 1" balls and roll in sugar. Bake on greased cookie sheet at 350 degrees for 13-15 minutes.

Note from Gay - I also add 1/8 tsp. cayenne pepper for a little zip! This is a great recipe.
