"Plain fresh bread, its crust shatteringly crisp. Sweet cold butter. There is magic in the way they come together in your mouth to make a single perfect bite."--Ruth Reichl

1/8 salt

Directions:
** You will need a double broiler, or as I do use two sauce pans one with boiling water and one with pudding mixture in it.

Heat milk. In a bowl, beat eggs, add to them sugar, flour, and salt. Gradually, and slowly add, heated milk. Pour back into pan used for milk, and place over boiling water pan. Stirring constantly. Cook until mixture thickens and will coat a metal spoon. In a 9 inch square pan, coat bottom with a layer of vanilla wafers, top with layer of bananas, pour 1/2 of pudding mixture over bananas, repeat wafers, bananas, and pour remaining pudding over bananas. Chill of hours. Garnish top with crushed wafers before serving.
Makes 8 to 10 servings.
