"I have long believed that good food, good eating is all about risk. Whether we're talking about unpasteurized Stilton, raw oysters or working for organized crime 'associates,' food, for me, has always been an adventure."--Anthony Bourdain
This recipe for Cranberry Relish, by Kiera Werner, is from The FitzPatrick Family Cookbook,
one of the cookbooks created at FamilyCookbookProject.com. We help
families or individuals create heirloom cookbook treasures.
2 lbs. of fresh cranberries 3 granny smith apples, skinned and chopped 2 cups of pears, skinned and chopped 1 orange, peeled (all white removed) and chopped 2 cups golden raisins 2 cups sugar 1 cup orange juice 2 T grated orange peel 2 tsp cinnamon 1/2 tsp nutmeg 1/2 tsp orange liqueur (or more to taste) 1/2 cup nuts (optional)
Mix all ingredients except nuts and liqueur in saucepan. Bring to boil, lower heat; simmer until thickened (about 45 mins.) Add nuts and liqueur. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
This is easy and delicious. It makes for a much more sophisticated cranberry sauce than the usual jellied stuff!
