1 c. shortening
1/2 c sugar
1 1/2 c. brown sugar
2 eggs separated
1 T cold water
1 tsp vanilla
2 c sifted flour
1/4 t salt
1 t soda
1 7oz package choc chips
1 c chopped peanuts or pecans

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening. Beat in sugar then, 1/2 c brown sugar. Beat until fluffy; add slightly beaten egg yolks, water and vanilla. Sift dry ingredient. Add to first mixture. Spread in pan, sprinkle with chocolate chips. Beat egg whites until stiff. Add 1 c brown sugar, spread over chocolate chips, then cover with the chopped nuts. Bake for 25 minutes at 375º. Cut into squares when cool.
