10 large yellow onions--peeled and sliced 1/8 inch thick
8 T butter, divided
2 T flour
1 cup milk
1 cup heavy cream
6 T grated Parmesan cheese, divided
1 cup soft bread cubes

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350ºF.
Saute onions in 6 T butter.
Cover, simmer on low heat until clear. (DO NOT let them brown.)
Put in baking dish.

MAKE CREAM SAUCE:
Melt 2 T butter; add 2 T flour to make a roux. Stir two minutes without browning. Gradually add heavy cream and milk. Stir until hot. Add in 4 T Parmesan cheese. Stir until melted.
Pour cream sauce over onions and mix gently. Sprinkle soft bread cubes and remaining Parmesan on top.
Bake at 350ºF until hot and brown on top.

This recipe came from a friend of mine whose grandmother made this for her family. We served them at Christmas dinner and everyone loved them. This version calls for more cheese than the original. Enjoy!
