1-28 oz can tomato puree
1 4-oz can tomato past
1 tsp olive oil
2 gloves garlic
1 small onion
1 tsp dried basil
1 Tbsp dried oregano
1 Tbsp dried parsley
1 bay leaf
1 Tbsp Parmesan cheese
2 links Italian sausage, cut in inch slices

Cook sausage slices in oil until brown. Add chopped garlic and onion and saute until tender. Add tomato puree and paste to sausage, onion and garlic. Add spices and Parmesan cheese and simmer on low for about two hours. Cooked meat balls may be added.

I always double this recipe. It seems like a lot of spices, but have faith. This is the best sauce ever. I always feel like I should be playing the theme from "The Godfather" as I stir this sauce. Be careful, it really pops a lot while cooking. Use a lid on the pot but cock it so there is some space between the lid and the pot.
