2 cups flour
1 tbsp baking powder
1/4 tsp baking soda
3/4 tsp salt
1/3 cup shortening
3/4 cup buttermilk

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 450º
Sift flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt together into a large bowl.
Cut shortening into dry ingredients, using a pastry blender. Stir in buttermilk with a fork just until dough cleans sides of bow.
Knead lightly on a lightly floured surface. Pat or roll to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut with a floured biscuit cutter and place on an ungreased baking sheet.
Bake 12-15 minutes
Makes 8 large or 16 small biscuits
