1 cup solid white vegetable shortening.
1 tsp. WiltonŽ flavor (vanilla, almond, or butter)**.
3 tbsp. milk or water.
1 lb. pure cane confectioners' sugar.
1 tbsp. WiltonŽ meringue powder.
A pinch of salt (optional).

**Recommended flavoring:
Mix 1/2 WiltonŽ vanilla flavor, 1/4 WiltonŽ almond flavor, and 1/4 WiltonŽ butter flavor.

Cream shortening, flavoring, and milk or water in a large bowl. In a separate bowl, mix meringue powder and confectioners' sugar, then add the dry ingredients to creamed mixture.

Mix on medium speed until all ingredients have been thoroughly mixed together. Blend an additional minute or so, until creamy; icing should form stiff peaks.

This medium consistency icing is perfect for creating stars, shell borders, flowers that lie flat, and for icing a cake.

Also, if the icing appears to be too stiff for decorations, just a few drops of water will make a great deal of difference!
