1 pkg. cut dates
3/4 c. sugar
3/4 c. water
1/2 c. chopped nuts
1 c. Crisco
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. granulated sugar
3 eggs
4 c. flour
1/2 t, salt
1 t. baking soda
1 t. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400º.
Combine dates, 3/4 c. sugar, and 3/4 c. water.Cook until thick. Add chopped nuts. Cool.
Cream together Crisco, brown sugar, granulated sugar.
Add 3 eggs and beat thoroughly.
Sift together flour, salt, baking soda. Add to mixture. Add vanilla. Beat until smooth and firm. Divide into 2-3 parts.

Roll out between sheets of waxed paper to 1/2 inch thickness. Lift one side of paper off dough, spread with date mixture. Re-roll and refrigerate until firm. Slice thinly. Bake on greased cookie sheet 10-12 minutes until lightly browned. My family loves these!
Suggestion: I freeze the dough until ready to bake.
