Barry and I agree this would be Mom’s beef brisket. Her house is about the only place we get it. It may have begun our joint love of barbecued meat. Brisket would often be served at family occasions and I believe it is what she prepared for our wedding rehearsal dinner.

(Mom catered our entire rehearsal dinner and wedding reception, except for the cake, herself, preparing beef and other meat for sandwiches and some side dishes for the reception. What a woman!)

Personal Notes:
Of course I can’t forget Lemon Lush, a yummy dessert I think she picked up in Overland Park or after the return to Topeka. I also have fond childhood memories of waking up on Sunday mornings to find she had made pecan rolls. Delicious! Okay, that’s more than one, but I want to add my standard birthday cake request was an angel food cake frosted with whipped topping that had been mixed with frozen strawberries. A very happy birthday to me! This was also because Dad would traditionally grill sirloin steak. He had won a sirloin steak upon my birth because I was the first baby in his hospital to be born on Father’s Day that year. (It may have looked fishy that the hospital administrator won the contest, but it was legitimate!) But my all time good memory food is the blueberry pancakes with blueberry sauce that Mom would only prepare when we were camping or at the cabin in Alma, Colorado. She made her blueberry sauce without a recipe, but I found this one to use myself.
