2 c. sifted flour
1/2 t. salt
3 t. baking powder
1/2 c. chopped pitted dates
1/2 c. butter or margarine
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 t. grated orange rind
3/4 c. milk
2 T. lemon juice
1/2 c. chopped pecans

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º. Sift together flour, salt and baking powder. Add dates; mix to separate and coat with flour. Cream butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating until smooth after each addition. Stir in orange rind. Add dry ingredients and liquids alternately to creamed mixture. Stir in pecans. Turn into a well-buttered and floured loaf pan. bake for 50 to 60 minutes. Cool in pan on rack 5 minutes. Remove from pan and finish cooling on wire rack. For easier slicing, wrap and store one day.
