1/2 c. cornmeal
1 1/2 c. water
1/2 t. salt
1 1/2 c. milk
1 t. shortening
1 onion
1 c. ground beef
1 1/4 c. tomatoes
pinch of red pepper and chili powder

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º. Cook cornmeal, water, salt until mixture begins to thicken. Add milk, cook 10 minutes longer; stir constantly to prevent sticking. Fry chopped onion in shortening, add meat cook until meat begins to turn brown. Add tomatoes, salt, red pepper, and chili powder. Line a deep baking dish that has been buttered with about 3/4 of the cornmeal mush. Pour in meat mixture and then cover with remaining mush. Bake for 45 minutes.
