Directions:
Make 1 gal of cucumber sticks 2-2 1/2 ins. long from peeled and seeded ripe cucumbers. Soak overnight in 2 gal. water with 2 c. powdered lime.
Drain and rinse several times. Let stand 3 hrs. in clear water. Drain well.
Make syrup of 1 qt. vinegar, 5 c. sugar, 2 drops oil of cinnamon and 2 drops oil of cloves, and 1 t. salt. Bring to boil. Pour over sticks and let set overnight.
Drain syrup and add 4 c. sugar to it, and a small bottle of green food coloring.
Bring to boil the syrup and the cucumber sticks. Simmer 30 min. Pack jars and seal.
You can do it in a hot water bath, but if you have the syrup boiling and the jars hot, they will seal themselves.
