1 lb of lean ground beef
1 pkg of (12 oz) of less fat sausage
1/2 tsp of salt
1/2 tsp of pepper
1/4 tsp of garlic powder
1/2 tsp of Italian seasoning
4 large sturdy green peppers (they need to be able to stand by themselves)
1 (4oz) can of mushroom pieces, drained
1 (8oz) can of tomato sauce
1 (14 1/2-ounce) can of diced tomatoes
1 cup of instant rice
aluminum foil

Pre heat oven 425º. Fill saucepan 3/4 full with hot water. Cover and bring to a boil on high heat for the bell peppers. Brown beef and sausage with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning, then drain. Wash bell peppers. Cut a thin slice from stem end of each pepper, discard seeds and membranes. Place peppers upright in boiling water, cover and boil for 5 minuets (depending on whether you like crunchy or soft peppers) Stir mushrooms, tomato sauce, undrained tomatoes and rice into beef mixture, cook for 3 minutes. Remove peppers and drain, stand upright in baking dish. Stuff each pepper with beef mixture, mounding top. Cover with foil and bake for 15-20 minutes.
