5 c. all purpose flour
1 tsp. salt
1 T. granulated sugar
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1 lb. lard
1 egg
2 T. white vinegar or
cold water
fresh lemon juice

Directions:
Directions:
Sift together or combine thoroughly with a fork, flour, salt, sugar and baking soda. Cut lard into cubes and blend with a pasty blender. Beat together egg, vinegar and enough cold water to fill a one cup measure. Add all at once to flour mixture. Work with hands only until mixture comes away from sides of bowl.

Chill pastry (wrapped in wax paper) before rolling. Dough can be divided and frozen, wrapped in wax paper and stored in a plastic bag.
