"As viscous as motor oil swirled in a swamp, redolent of burnt bell peppers nested in by incontinent mice and a finish reminiscent of the dregs of a stale can of Coca-Cola that someone has been using as an ashtray. Not a bad drink, though."--Excerpt from "The Moose Turd Wine Tasting" by T. A. Nonymous

4 c flour
2 tsp baking powder
2 tsp soda
1/2 tsp salt
4 c oatmeal
c shortening
2 c brown sugar
2 c sugar
4 eggs
2 tsp vanilla

Mix dry ingredients. Cream shortening, sugars, eggs & vanilla. Add dry ingredients & oatmeal & mix well.
Now add any or all of the following in 1 cup increments: wheat germ, coconut, raw sunflower seeds, chopped nuts, raisins, chocolate chips, chopped dates, maybe some ready-to-eat cereal or whatever. ( I add the first 7).
Make a stiff dough. Mold or drop on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 for 10 min. ( Do not overbake!)
