1/2 stick of butter softened
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. molasses
2 eggs
2 1/2 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. of ground ginger or 1 tbsp. of grated fresh ginger
1/2 c. hot water
1/2 c. butter milk

Cream butter and sugar and then add eggs one at a time. Mix all dry ingredients together and save. Mix molasses and hot water together. Add dry and wet ingredients alternately to butter mixture. Fold butter milk in at end. Bake for 45 minutes at 350 degrees. Serve with apple sauce and whipped cream.
