Blitz Torte Recipe

3/4 c shortening 3/4 c sugar
6 egg yolks 1/2 c milk
1 1/2 c cake flour 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
6 egg whites 1 1/2 c sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla unblanched almond chips
Vanilla custard or cooked pudding

1. Cream shortening and sugar, add egg yolks and beat well. Add dry ingredients alternately with milk.
Pour into 2 greased 9" cake pans.
2. Beat 6 egg whites until stiff. Gradually add sugar and then vanilla. Spread meringue over batter.
3. Bake at 350 for 25-30 min.
4. Place one layer on serving plate, and cover with custard. Top with second layer.
