7 lbs cucumbers
2 1/2 lb salt
1 c. vinegar
1 tbsp alum
6 c. sugar
1 qt. vinegar
1 tbsp. mixed spices

Directions:
Directions:
Soak 7 lbs cucumbers in a strong brine (2 1/2 lbs salt) for 3 days in a stone jar. Rinse and soak cukes in clear water for 3 days. Cut cukes in slices. Put in pan and add water to cover. Add 1 c. vinegar and 1 tbsp alum. Keep hot four hours (Do not boil). Put back in stone jar and cover with hot solution of 6 c. sugar, 1 qt. vinegar and 1 tbsp mixed spices. Drain solution off cukes and heat for 3 mornings and let stand each day. On the 4th day, put cukes in hot jars, pour in hot liquid and seal.
