"As I ate the oysters with their strong taste of the sea and their faint metallic taste that the cold white wine washed away, leaving only the sea taste and the succulent texture, and as I drank their cold liquid from each shell and washed it down with the crisp taste of the wine, I lost the empty feeling and began to be happy, and to make plans."--Ernest Hemingway

This recipe for Mrs. George Raymond's Chocolate Spoon Candy, by Lois Duke, is from The Duke Family Cookbook ,
one of the cookbooks created at FamilyCookbookProject.com. We help
families or individuals create heirloom cookbook treasures.
2 c. sugar 1 c. water 3 squares chocolate 1 can evaporated milk 2 T. butter 2 tsp. vanilla
Mix together the sugar and water; boil stirring constantly til sugar dissolves with a wooden spoon. Add the chocolate and let melt. Add evaporated milk a little at a time letting it boil down til thick each time. Add the margarine and vanilla and let set in pan til cool. Pour into baby jars and cover with lids.
Mrs. Raymond said she didn't know where this came from; probably her boys couldn't wait long enough for the fudge to get hard. This is an old recipe.
