1 cup butter
1 1/2 cups sugar
3 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 1/2 cups flour
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating after each addition. Stir in vanilla. Sift dry ingredients and add to cream mixture. Chill overnight.

Roll with rolling pin on well floured surface to 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick. Cut in desired shapes. Bake on ungreased cookie sheets at 375º for six minutes.

Makes approximately 8 dozen.
