1 long thin loaf (10 oz) french or italian bread cut into 1 inch slices
8 large eggs
3 cups milk
4 t sugar
3/4 t salt
1 T vanilla
2 T butter cut into small pieces

Directions:
Directions:
Grease 13X9 pan with margarine or cooking spray. Arrange bread slices in 1 layer in pan. In large bowl, beat eggs with milk, sugar, salt, and vanilla. Pour over bread. Cover with foil and refrigerate 4 to 36 hours. Uncover and dot with butter or margarine. Bake 45-50 minutes in a 350 oven until bread is puffy and lightly browned. Let stand 5 minutes.
