2 lbs fresh ground pork
1 lb lean ground beef
2 1/2 lbs of peeled, cooked and mashed potatoes
2 medium onions chopped
2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
1/4 tsp allspice
1/4 tsp ground cloves
1/8 tsp ground thyme
2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper

Note:
10 serving size of instant mashed potatoes can be used instead of fresh white potatoes.

Cook onions till clear in large pan, add ground meat. Cook slowly for 1 hour. stirring occasionally. Add mashed potatoes and spices. Mix well. Put filling between unbaked pie crusts while filling is still hot. Brush top crust with melted butter. Bake in 400º oven for 15 minutes and 375º oven until crust is golden (about an hour). Serve warm.

This recipe is a recollection of the tasty Tourtierre my mother used to make. She never wrote down a recipe--cooked simply from memory. It is a very old recipe--dates back to the 1920's. I have a lot of fond memories making them with her.
