1 qt. fruit OR 1 large can of desired fruit or berries OR 2 c. fresh fruit sweetend to taste
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/3 c. sugar
1 c. milk
food coloring, few drops of appropriate color added to fruit (red to cherries, orange or yellow to peaches) to enhance fruit color

Melt the butter in an 8" square dish. In a separate bowl, mix the fruit with 1 cup of the sugar and set aside. Mix the remaining 1/3 cup of sugar with all the dry ingredients. Add the milk last and beat well. Pour the batter into the dish with the butter; then pour the sweetened fruit on top of the batter. Bake at 375º until crust comes to the top and browns.
