4 1/2 c Quaker Oats, uncooked
1 c packed brown sugar
3/4 c margarine, melted
1/2 c dark corn syrup
1 t vanilla
1/2 t salt
One 12 oz pkg semi-sweet chocolate pieces
2 T shortening
2/3 c chopped nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oven to 450. Grease 15x10 inch pan.

Combine oats, sugar, margarine, corn syrup, vanilla and salt; mix well. Firmly press mixture into pan. Bake 12 minutes, or until mixture is brown and bubbly. Cool completely.

In saucepan over low hea, melt chocolate and shortening, stirring constantly until smooth. Spread evenly over oat base; sprinkle with nuts. Chill until set; cut into bars.
