Basic Dough:

2 cups shortening
3 cups sugar
4 eggs
cup milk
4 teaspoons vanilla extract
5 cups sifted flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt

Spiced Dough:

teaspoon cloves
1 teaspoon cinnamon

With Nuts:

cup walnuts
1 - 2 teaspoons coconut

Divide into 3 portions, wrap and chill. Bake at 425 F, 8 minutes.
