3/4 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup brer rabbit molasses
1 egg
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp. clove
1/2 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking soda

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375º

Melt shortening in sauce pan over low heat, let cool.
Place shortening in large bowl.

Add sugar, molasses and egg, beat well.

Sift together flour, clove, ginger, cinnamon and salt.
Add to sugar mixture, mix well.

Chill for 2 hours.

Roll into balls (depending on size of cookie you like) then into sugar.
Place on ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake for 8 to 10 minutes.

Cool on wire rack.
