2 lbs hamburger
2 onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
lb mushrooms, sliced
1 (6 oz) can tomato paste
1 (1-lb, 13 oz) can Italian-style tomatoes, drained (save some liquid) and chopped
c. liquid from tomatoes
1 tsp salt
tsp pepper
1 tsp oregano
2 tbsp sherry
5 potatoes, peeled and sliced thin
4 oz. mozzarella, shredded

Saute hamburger, onions, garlic and mushrooms. Drain excess fat. Add tomato paste, tomatoes and liquid, seasonings and sherry. Simmer, covered, for 1 hour. Grease an 8X10-inch baking dish. Spoon in half the tomato mixture. Top with potatoes and half the cheese. Add remaining meat mixture. Bake at 375 degrees for 1 hour, 15 minutes. Sprinkle with remaining cheese and bake 10 minutes more.
