1 1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup shortening
2 eggs, beaten
1/4 cup red food coloring (2 ounces)
3 tablespoons cocoa
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2 1/2 cups sifted flour
1 tablespoon vinegar
For frosting:
3 tablespoons flour
1 cup milk
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup butter

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together sugar, shortening, and eggs. Mix together
and add to egg mixture, food coloring, cocoa, and vanilla.
Then add milk and flour to mixture by alternating. Stir in
vinegar and baking soda last. Pour into greased and floured
2- 9 inch pans and bake at 350 degree oven for 30 minutes.
Once cool prepare frosting.
For frosting: cook flour and milk until thick. Remove from
heat. Then cream together sugar, vanilla and butter and add
to flour and milk mixture. Frost cake as desired.
