1 c. dates, cut fine
1 1/2 c. boiling water
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. butter
2 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. flour
3 T. cocoa
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda

Topping:
1/2 c. sugar
1 c. chocolate chips
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Put dates in bowl & cover with boiling water. Stir & mash. Cool. Cream sugar & butter, add eggs & beat until fluffy. Add vanilla & date mixture. Add flour, cocoa, salt & soda. Stir till all ingredients are mixed. Grease & flour 9x13 pan. Pour in pan & put on topping. Bake at 325º for 45 minutes.
