1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup water
1/3 cup Crisco or Oleo
1 cup raisins
1/2 tsp nutmeg
2 tsp Cinnamon
1/2 tsp cloves

Mix all ingredients in a medium size sauce pan, bring to a boil and cook 3 minutes cool.

Preheat oven to 325 degrees.

Add to cooled mixture: 1 tsp salt, 1 egg and 1 tsp soda dissolved in 2 tsp water.
Blend in 2 cups flour and 1 tsp baking powder. Pour into 8' x 8 pan, bake 50 minutes.
