2 c. sugar
2 c. shortening
2 eggs, beaten
1 1/4 c. buttermilk
4 c. flour
1 t. salt
2 t. soda
1 1/2 t. vanilla

Directions:
Cream together sugar and shortening. Add eggs and mix. Add buttermilk, mix. Sift in dry ingredients and mix. Add vanilla, mix.

For cholcolate cookies, separate dough in half and add 1/2 c. cocoa to one batch.

Chill dough very well.

Pat dough onto floured surface to 1/2" thick. Cut with round cutter and place on cookie sheet. Sprinkle sugar cookie dough with sugar.

Bake at 350º.
