Red Bean and Hamburger Stew Recipe

1 can pinto beans
1 can red kidney beans
1 lb hamburger
1/2 onion chopped
1 stalk celery
1/2 c crushed tomatoes
2 cans chicken broth
2 c water
1 t thyme
1 1/2 t chili powder
1 T ground cumin
1 t garlic
1 T sugar
pinch red pepper
1/2 c ketchup
salt and pepper

Saute onion and celery in oil til soft. Add tomatoes, chicken broth, water, beans and seasonings. Bring to a rapid boil and cook until beans are done. Carmelize sugar in 1 T oil. Add hamburger and season with garlic salt, cumin, chili powder, salt and pepper. Cook covered until brown the add ketchup and continue cooking until seasonings are well blended. Add hamburger to beans during last 15 minutes of cooking.
