Ingredients:
Ingredients:
¾ c butter flavor Crisco shortening
1 ¼ c firmly packed brown sugar
2 T milk
1 T pure vanilla
1 egg
2 c flour
¾ tsp baking soda
1 c semi-sweet chocolate chips
Nuts if desired

Directions:
Directions:
Combine Crisco, brown sugar, milk, and vanilla. Beat at medium speed of electric mixer until well blended. Beat egg into creamed mixture. Combine flour, salt, and baking soda. Mix into creamed mixture until blended. Stir in chocolate chips and nuts. Drop heaping teaspoonfuls of dough onto ungreased cookie sheet. I always flatten them a little, but you still need to leave room for them to spread. Bake one baking sheet at a time at 375 for 8 to 10 minutes. May take a bit longer, but don’t over bake, will set up nicely while cooling!

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
I forbid Ernie to buy chocolates for Valentine’s Day because I love chocolate. I even persuaded him to keep chocolate chips in a metal box with a combination lock. (Of course, I did get desperate one day and figured out the combination!) As a compromise, I make HIM chocolate chip cookies in the shape of hearts for V-Day—that way we BOTH enjoy.

This is off the butter flavor Crisco can. I think the reason it’s so good is because it uses only brown sugar, a whole tablespoon of vanilla, and a little milk. I’ve include ¼ c more flour since I think it’s too flat and chewy with the original amount. I’ve tried using whole wheat flour and egg substitute with this recipe. It’s good enough--but actually better NOT warm that way.
