3/4 lb. bulk Italian sausage
1/2 c. chopped onion
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tbsp. chopped fresh basil or 1 tsp. dried basil
1 (16-oz.) can whole tomatoes
1 (14 1/2-oz.) can beef broth
1 (15-oz.) can black beans
1 (15 1/2-oz) can butter beans
Grated Parmesan cheese

In a large saucepan or Dutch oven, combine sausage, onion, garlic, and basil. Cook over medium-high heat until sausage is well browned and onion is tender; drain. Cut up tomatoes. Add tomatoes, beef broth, and both cans of drained beans. Stir. Cover and cook over medium heat for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Ladle into bowls and top with Parmesan cheese. Makes five 1 1/2 cup servings. (use Muir Glen canned tomatoes if possible)
