1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 egg
2 cups flour
2 t. baking powder
1/2 t. salt
3/4 cup milk
1 t. vanilla

Topping:

1/4 cup soft margarine
1/4 cup flour
3/4 cup sugar
1 1/2 t. cinnamon

Directions for Topping:
1. Cream margarine and sugar until mixed.
2. Add cinnamon and flour and blend.
3. Crumble on top of coffee cake.

1. Preheat oven to 350.
2. Grease and flour large rectangular cake pan.
3. Cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy.
4. Add eggs; continue creaming.
5. Sift and measure flour.
6. Measure baking powder and salt; add to flour mixture and blend together.
7, Stir in flour mixture and milk to creamed mixture alternately, three times.
8. Pour thick mixture into greased pan.
9. Spread 1/8 cup melted butter on top of dough and cover with topping.
10. Bake for 40 minutes or until lightly brown.
