1 cup shortening
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup granulated sugar
2 eggs, well beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
3 cups quick-cooking oats
1/2 cup chopped walnuts

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

2. Cream shortening and sugars. Add eggs and vanilla, beat well. Add flour, salt and baking soda, mix well. Stir in oatmeal and nuts. Shape into rolls and wrap in waxed paper. Chill thoroughly. Slice 1/2" thick and place on ungreased cookie sheets.

3. Bake for 10 minutes or until lightly browned.
